Dr. Charmaine Dodd, PsyD, RYT

Dr. Dodd is a clinical psychologist, with over a decade of clinical experience specializing in grief, depression, anxiety, complex-trauma, post-traumatic stress, race-based stress, addiction, spiritual conflicts and as well as relationship problems. Dr. Dodd approaches therapy as a partnership, first establishing trust and building connection so that the work which involves deep vulnerability can be done. Using CBT, DBT and mindfulness to improve coping, somatic and body-based approaches to enhance connection to self, and psychodynamic approaches to increase knowledge of self and others; Dr. Dodd is able to create an open, non-judgmental, safe space for you to see yourself and be seen.

In addition to her work with Chicago Anxiety Counseling, Supervision, and Consultation, Dr. Dodd has experience in psychological testing, inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy and case management, as well as workshop development, and mental health consultation. She is a fierce advocate for mental health treatment, particularly to historically marginalized and underserved populations. As such she has worked in many settings where individuals have their first contact with mental health treatment: psychiatric hospitals, drug and alcohol treatment centers, the juvenile justice system, and community violence prevention programs. She also enjoys educating the community by way of presentations and talks and serves on the board of the New York Association of Black Psychologists as both the chair of membership and program planning and development. 

Dr. Dodd provides services in English. Born and raised in New York City, she received her Bachelor’s in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) as well as a Masters in Counseling Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from Adler University (formerly the Adler School of Professional Psychology) in Chicago, IL. In addition to her clinical training, she has completed her 200-hour yoga teacher certification and a 20-hour (TCTSY) trauma sensitive yoga training. She is passionate about working with individuals who are committed to the therapy process and offers telehealth sessions currently.
